Abstract
347,801. Mercury-vapour rectifiers. FUSI DENKI SEIZO KABUSHIKI KAISHA, Kawasaki, Japan. Feb. 26, 1930, No. 6400. Convention date, Feb. 27, 1929. [Class 39 (i).] Electrolytic corrosion of an insulated iron container A of a rectifier by cooling water is prevented by the provision of easily enchangeable metal plates H, which are given a potential equal, at least, to that of the container and are inserted in vessels G fitted in the supply and discharge insulating pipes of the cooling system. The vessel G is connected to a cooling jacket B and to a metal pipe F by means of rubber pipes D<1>, D<2>. The container and its jacket and the vessel G are supported on insulators C and are connected together by a lead K. In a modification, the vessel G and the plates H are given a positive potential with respect to the container by means of a current source J or by forming them of a metal e.g. zinc or cadmium which is more electro-positive than iron. The potential of the plates may be varied by connecting them to an adjustable tapping on a resistance (Fig. 5, not shown) which shunts the current source.
