Abstract
658,661. Jigging conveyers; discharging material from hoppers. OTTO, C. Jan. 24, 1949, No. 1943. Convention date, Sept. 3, 1948. [Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group XII] The coking chambers of a coke oven battery (see Group XII) are charged three at a time by a travelling lorry 60 which runs on rails 62 on the battery roof and supports a coal hopper 63 which is divided internally into three sections, each holding enough coal to charge one oven. The lorry is moved to the charging position, so that coal outlets 65 register with the charging holes 29 of each oven. Telescopic sleeves 76 are lowered over each hole to prevent hot gases from passing up around the hopper 63, chimneys 77 providing for their escape. The coal is fed from each section to the outlets by a vibratory feeder 64 which is suspended from hopper 63 by links 69 which allow the reciprocatory movement of the feeder. A motor element 69a actuated by alternating current vibrates the feeder through members 71 at a frequency equal to or twice that of the current.
