[Cognate Application, 24,897/09.] Storage chambers, emptying from below.- Materials are fed into refuse-consuming furnaces through measuring-devices from overhead storage-hoppers which are supplied by suitably arranged conveyers. As shown in Fig. 1, the materials are dumped into a hopper at the ground level and after being reduced in size by a crusher G, are elevated by a conveyer H to a second conveyer J, which distributes them to the different storage hoppers F. The materials are passed into the furnace through a shoot A, closed at the upper end by doors F' and at the lower by the cover of the charging opening of the furnaces. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 6, a single storage hopper is provided for a number of cells, and the materials are distributed by skips A running on overhead rails L. Skips. - The skips can be lowered to the charging openings by suitable bevel gearing, and the same movement may be utilized for opening the lower doors of the skip.
