1435795 Charging coke ovens; drying coal BRITISH STEEL CORP (CHEMICALS) Ltd 4 Oct 1974 [5 Oct 1973] 46700/73 Headings F4B and F4G A coke oven plant has a bunker for wet coal and coal preheater, means being provided to convey wet coal either directly to the coke ovens or to the coal preheater. In the form of Fig. 1 the charging car 18 has rails 20, Fig. 2, to support a carriage 21 with a travelling conveyer belt 22 arranged to be fed with wet coal by charging shoots 23. The conveyer carries the wet coal across the top of the charging car and passes it to another conveyer 24 which runs in a closed duct to the coal preheater 19. From the preheater coal is conveyed by conveyer belt 26 in duet 27 to the top of the preheated coal bunker 17. The ducts are interconnected by a duct 28 so that an inert gas can be circulated over the preheated coal in duct 27, down duct 18 and through duct 28 to dry and heat the coal on its way to the preheater. In a modification the conveyer runs on rails on the fixed structure. In another form (Fig. 4, not shown) two charging cars are used instead of the conveyer 22, the cars being movable sideways in one direction to convey preheated coal to the ovens and in the other to convey wet coal to a conveyer taking it to the preheater.
