Abstract

658,655. Lifting-jacks. SHELLEY, Ltd., R. T., and TICKELL, F. C. Jan. 21, 1949, No. 1713. [Class 78 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXI] A lifting jack is adapted to be actuated by the normal detachable starting handle of a vehicle. The actuating handle is comprised of two parts a, c, the former being the starting handle having a transverse pin b which is engageable with dogs on the engine crank-shaft, and the latter being a square section rod having a bayonet socket at one end to engage the handle a and pin b, and an upset head d at the other end which engages a socket on a pinion (not shown) which, when rotated, effects linear movement of the jack. The bayonet socket consists of a slotted sleeve g secured to the rod c by punchings f and carrying a cap j shaped as shown in Fig. 2. The slot in the sleeve is shaped as at n to engage snugly the pin b.
