Abstract

<PICT:0658486/IV (b)/1> An acetylene generator in which the supply of acetylene is automatically regulated by the flow of water by being controlled by variations of the gas pressure, comprises two mutually adjusted casings, one within the other, thus forming an annular chamber between the opposed walls, a second chamber, the top of which is closed to form a counter pressure chamber being defined by the walls of the inner casing; the calcium carbide is contained in a basket above the inner casing, the said inner casing being fixedly suspended from the bottom of a cover which is secured in an air-tight manner to the opening of the outer casing; the bottom of the cover is provided with communicating orifices between the annular chamber and the inner part of said cover, an acetylene gas discharge cock and a safety valve; the cover is provided with fixing means of a detachable nature at the opening of the outer casing, the bottom of said casing being closed. The carbide basket may be placed on the upper end of the inner casing. The airtight closure of the cover upon the outer casing may be obtained by turning down a screw which screws into an element which is positioned by means placed at the strengthened side of the outer casing. The element which bears the nut for airtight closure of the cover may be constructed from a stamped iron sheet which has the shape of a half-moon and a transverse section in the shape of an inverted U of decreasing size from the centre towards the sides. In the drawing, the inner casing 14 forming the counter pressure chamber is fixed by means of element 15 to cover 4 of outer casing 1 and the carbide basket 17 is provided above casing 14; orifices indicated by arrows allow acetylene to pass to the safety valve 12 and discharge cock 13; the cover 4 is held in position by means of screw 8 which screws into element 9 and engages in cavity 6.
