Abstract

231,275. Jennings, E. Jan. 31, 1924. Surface carburettors.-In a carburettor provided with inner and outer containers and an absorbent medium through which the fuel passes, the carburetted air passes through a space which is in communication with the air and is provided with a diaphragm adjustable parallel to itself. The fuel is contained between inner and outer vessels b, a, the vessel b being porous. Air passes through the space k formed between the vessels and the lower side of a diaphragm m down the annular passage g and the carburetted air passes up the inside of a tube n and is mixed in the hood i with additional air which enters on the upper side of the diaphragm m; adjustment of the air supply is obtained by movement of the tube n supporting the diaphragm m by a cam o. In a modification, the space between the vessels 2, 3, Fig. 3, is filled with porous material 7 and the fuel is contained within the inner vessel 3, which is provided with perforated sides. An iris diaphragm 16<1> controls the surface of porous material open to the air, while the movable diaphragm 16 is adjusted. by rack and pinion gearing 17, 19. The rack 17 is formed with a projection 37 which presses on the arm 35 of a valve 34 controlling the supply of fuel.
