Abstract
658,143. Axial-flow compressors. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. June 3, 1949, No. 14927. Convention date, July 16, 1948. [Class 110(i)] In a multi-stage axial-flow compressor having a cooler combined with its casing, the medium is conveyed through one group of stages in an axial direction, then flows through the cooler in the reverse direction and enters a pressure conduit which is adjacent to the suction conduit of the group of stages. Medium from a suction conduit 6 passes through the first group of stages 7 and reverses its direction at an annular space 8, subsequently passing by way of a pair of coolers 9 and a pair of pressure conduits 10 to a second group of stages 12. The medium passes in reverse direction through a second pair of coolers 14 and thence by way of a pair of conduits 15 to a discharge conduit 16. Transverse walls 18 may be provided to prevent convection currents in spaces 17. The coolers 14 and the stages 12 may be omitted.
