Abstract
658,084. Jointing pipes to headers. HUET, A Sept. 15, 1949, No. 23811. Convention date, Oct. 1, 1948. [Class 99(i)] In a joint for tubes to headers of the kind in which a conical tube end 4 is clamped against a conical seat 5 in the header opening 6 such as by a bolted bridge-piece 13, the tube end and seat have annular serrations between which is clamped a conical packing ring 7 for example, of annealed sheet copper. The ring may have a conical angle different from that of the tube and seat, and may have an internal flange 10 located between shoulders 8, 9. In a modification, Fig. 5, the serrated portions on both tube and header are equal in height to about half the height of the packing ring and are arranged out of register so that the seal is not broken if the tube moves away from its seat. In a further modification, Fig. 8, the ring has a double wall formed by turning it back on itself. The open end of the ring faces inwards, and its edges are bevelled at 17 so that sealing is ensured by the internal fluid pressure.
