Abstract
663,011. Pipe connections for heat-exchangers. BROWN FINTUBE CO. July 12, 1949 [Sept. 13, 1948], No. 18384/49. Class 99 (i). [Also in Group XIII] In heat-exchangers of the kind comprising a pair of parallel outer tubes 10 connected at one end by a return bend, a plurality of finned inner tubes 25 connected by return bends, lateral inlet and outlet tubes 22 for one fluid medium, and terminal inlet and outlet tubes 28 for the other fluid medium, means are provided for sealing the tubes 25 and 28 to the outer tubes 10. The tubes 25 are welded into a fitting comprising a plate 31 and cylindrical extension 32 which is located by a circlip 40 in a groove in the fitting engaging a shoulder 38 in the tube 10. A sealing ring '42 is pressed against bevelled seats in the tube 10 and fitting by a flange 18 and studs 44. A cover-plate 20 to which the tube 28 is welded preferably eccentrically, is sealed by a gasket 46 in a groove 52 and secured by studs 50 on the end of the fitting. The studs 44, 50 all screw into flange 16 of tube 10. Specifications 606,362, 651,465 and 670,574, [bolth in Group XIII], are referred to.
