Abstract

657,792. Variable pitch propellers; controlling aircraft. ROTOL, Ltd. Jan. 24, 1949, Nos. 1926 and 32985. [Classes 4 and 114] In a multi-engined aircraft installation in addition to the normal feathering controls for the variable-pitch propellers, a selective feathering switch is provided, which, when closed, operates the feathering gear of an engine which is not producing a minimum torque. The selective feathering switch 19 when closed, closes the switch 22, each blade of which connects lines 24, 25 for each engine. If one engine is failing to produce its minimum torque its switch 17 is closed, this operating solenoid 23 associated with that engine and thus, through contacts 34 closing the circuit of the feathering pump motor 12. The simultaneous disconnection of contacts 28, 29 breaks the feathering circuits of the remaining propellers so that only one propeller can be feathered at one time. A switch 18 on the engine throttle prevents feathering until a given throttle opening is reached.
