Abstract
657,142. Transformers. SOC. ANON. A. CITROEN. Nov. 30, 1948, No. 31019. Convention date, Dec. 9, 1947. [Class 38 (ii)] A transformer for intermittent operation and which utilizes a small magnetic core by providing effective cooling is toroidal in form and comprises a stack of annular laminations 1 clamped by a tube 3 of non-magnetic but conducting material swaged over the stack and closed by a ring 4 of non-conducting material to form a chamber 2 through which is passed a coolant, e.g. water by way of the orifices 5. The primary winding 13 passes through the core and down the outer surface of the chamber 2 whilst the low voltage secondary winding comprises two turns, one of which is constituted by a tube 6 extending through the core and terminating at the lower end at an output terminal whilst the other turn is constituted by the conducting clamping member 3 which is connected to the tubular rod by means of a plurality of angularly spaced flexible leads 11 soldered or brazed at 10 to the lower portion of member 3 and at the other end to a conducting hood 7 clamped to the tube 6. A further plurality of angularly spaced flexible leads 9 are connected between the upper part of the clamping member 3 at 8 and the other output terminal. Coolant is passed through the tube 6. An alternative core clamp which also forms a cooling chamber (Fig. 2, not shown), comprises a strip of U-shaped material bent circular so as to clamp the laminations between the inwardly extending legs of the strip. The shroud 7 may extend around the transformer to form a casing.
