[Class 40 (iv)] [Also in Groups VI and XL (b)] A supersonic vibrator comprises a piezo-electric crystal element mounted by its periphery at the mouth of a casing which contains an electrode which is coated at least at its periphery by a material of high dielectric strength. A crystal plate 1 is secured at the mouth of a tubular casing 2 either by means of a resilient material engaging a groove or ridge in the edge of the plate, for example, as described in Specification 619,872, or by bevelling the edge and crimping the ends of the tube on to a layer 4 of lead or tin, a plastic material or a cement or varnish which holds the crystal. The edge of the crystal may alternatively be metallized and welded to the case. An outer electrode of foil or deposited metal may be provided and an inner polythene-coated electrode 6 is held against the crystal by a spring acting on a metallic socket 8 supported in an insulating bush 9. The polythene may extend from the periphery of the electrode to the casing. A desiccator 11 keeps the interior of the case dry.
