Abstract

A time-of-flight tube for use in time-of-flight mass spectroscopy comprises a tube 1 consisting of an electrically insulating material, for example glass or ceramics, which has on its inside or outside a layer 4 or several layer sections 4, 5, 6 of an electrically conducting material such as gold or steel in direct contact with the tube, either as a coating or a closely fitting body. Sections 4, 5, 6 can constitute an electrostatic lens. <IMAGE>
