Abstract
656,759. Racking drill pipes. MOORE CORPORATION, L. C. Nov. 24, 1948, No. 30515. Convention date, Dec. 2, 1947. [Class 85] A well derrick 1 has secured to it on the open side thereof an outwardly directed pipe racking platform 17 in which the upper portions of stands of drill pipe 22 are supported and an elevator 49 is suspended from pneumatic hoist means which is carried by a trolley 45 that runs along a hoist beam 26 pivotally mounted at its inner end to one leg of the derrick, the mounting being a tubular member 27 supported by brackets 32, 33 one of which can be moved towards and away from the derrick by a vertically adjustable wedge 36 so that the hoist beam can be tilted from the horizontal. The stands of pipe are lifted by the elevator, the beam rotated and the trolley adjusted until the stand can be placed between the fingers 21 of the rack.
