Abstract
655,785. Roller conveyers. FISHER & LUDLOW, Ltd. Nov. 19, 1948, No. 30066. [Class 78 (i)] Figs. 1 and 2.-Retarding rollers 15 are interspersed among conveying rollers 12 of the roller conveyer. Each retarding roller 15 is freely mounted in bearings on a spindle 19 which is preferably secured by pins 32 to arms 21 secured to shaft 22, pivoting in the conveyer framework 14. Spindle 19 carries rigidly a pair of vanes 26 which curve outwards towards the roller and the roller is partly filled with heavy oil so that as a load passes over the retarding roller, the latter rotates and the friction of the oil between the vanes and the roller checks the rotation of the roller and therefore the speed of descent of the load, the retarding force increasing with the speed, the pivotal upward movement of the arms about 22 increasing the retarding effect. Figs. 1 and 4.-Spindle 19 is preferably carried by slots 20 slotted into the sides of framework 14 and is urged upwardly in said slots by springs 25, each connected between spindle 13 of a normal roller 12 and pin 32 on arm 21 so that each retarding roller 15 is slightly raised above the normal convey surface to ensure that the said roller does contact the descending load.
