Abstract

798,844. Endless chain conveyers. FISHER & LUDLOW, Ltd. March 20,1957 [March 22, 1956], No. 8909/56. Class 78 (1). In an overhead endless chain conveyer of the kind in which articles are suspended from the chain by stems in such manner that the articles can be rotated by a rotary member on the stem, co-operating with a rubbing strip, each stem consists of an upper non-rotatable part 22 which is pivoted by a transverse pin 20 to a load bar 19 of the chain, a lower rotatable article-carrying part 23 mounted on the outer race 25 of a ball bearing 24 on the lower end of the upper part 22, and a support member 28 formed on or secured to the upper part 22 and carrying a roller 29 engaging a control track 30 to prevent rearward swinging of the stem when the lower part 23 is rotated by a stationary rubbing strip 27 adapted to engage the race 25. The rubbing strip 27 and control track 30 are provided only at those portions of the conveyer track where rotation is to be effected. As used in a paint-spraying plant, the conveyer track includes inclined sections before and after a drying oven through which the articles pass, and in which the articles are to be rotated. The discontinuance of the track 30 outside the oven permits the stems to pivot about the pins 20 when passing to and from the inclined sections of the track and so remain vertical. In an alternative construction, Fig. 4, the upper part of the stem consists of a short stem 40 carried on the lower end of an inclined arm 38 to which is secured a short arm 39 by which it is mounted on the pin 20, the roller 29 being carried on the upper end of the arm 38. Specification 639,244 is referred to.
