Abstract

655,438. Drying of gases. BRITISH OXYGEN CO., Ltd., SHUFTAN, P. M., and GARDNER, J. B. July 28, 1948, No. 20115. [Class 34(i)] The water vapour content of a gas is reduced by contacting the gas with an aqueous solution of a relatively non-volatile, highly soluble substance at a temperature between -10‹C and -50‹C, such temperature being above the eutectic point of the solution. An alkali metal hydroxide such as potassium hydroxide is preferably used 'as the soluble substance. A small amount of solution may be continuously withdrawn from the scrubber, treated for the removal of water, and returned to the scrubber as a saturated solution.
