Abstract

Sprouting of stored potatoes is prevented by application of isopropylphenylcarbamate in a non-toxic diluent. On to one ton of potatoes, according to examples, are dusted 3 lb. of a preparation of 1 part of isopropylphenylcarbamate mixed with 50 parts of china clay, or are sprayed 5 lb. of a solution of 1 part of isopropylphenylcarbamate in 400 parts of diethyl carbonate.ALSO:Potatoes are treated to prevent or inhibit sprouting with a preparation containing isopropylphenylcarbamate incorporated in a non-toxic diluent. The preparation may be in solid form, the diluent being china clay, talc, chalk dust or sand, or in liquid form, the isopropyl ester being dissolved in diethyl carbonate, acetone, ethyl alcohol or dispersed or emulsified in water, or the preparation is in a form adapted to deliver the isopropyl ester in smoke or vapour form.
