Abstract

655,392. Etectric resonators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 24, 1947, No. 19917. Convention date, July 26, 1946. [Class 40 (viii)] Changes in the electrical characteristics of a device due to alterations in temperature are compensated by movement of a member secured to an elongated piece adjustably mounted in a hollow support with end portions of the same temperature coefficient as the elongated piece, and an intermediate section having a different temperature coefficient. A cavity resonator is formed in a block 1, which carries a tubular support 8 formed in three parts bonded together, the intermediate section 10 having a higher temperature coefficient than the end sections 9, 11 which are preferably of the same material as the block 1. Variations in the dimensions of the resonator due to changes of temperature are compensated by a flexible diaphragm 7 bonded to a bolt 15, the upper end of which engages a threaded bore in an adjusting screw 16, which engages a bore in the outer member 11 of the support 8. The internal and external threads of the screw 16 are of different pitch so that the diaphragm 7 may be adjusted. The screw 16 and bolt 15 are of the same material as the block 1, so that an alteration in temperature causes a different alteration in the length of the intermediate section 10 of the support 8 from the change in the length of screw 16 and bolt 15 so that the diaphragm 7 is deformed to compensate for variations in the dimensions of the resonator.
