Abstract
655,089. Controlling aircraft. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd. March 4, 1948, No. 6791. [Class 4] An aircraft is controlled at speeds below the normal flying speed by a discharge device mounted on a spanwise pivot below the control surface of the wing and normally substantially parallel with the general plane of the wing, the discharge device being mechanically connected with the control surface so that the effect of the jet issuing from the discharge device is varied automatically on movement of the control surface to augment the effectiveness of the control surface. As shown, a rocket 32 is pivoted to a bracket 33 depending from a wing 10. A link 35 is pivoted to an aileron 12 and to a collar 34 slidably mounted on the rocket 32. A link 36 is also pivoted to the collar 34 and to a sleeve 37 which sleeve is slidable along the pivotal axis 38 of the rocket in order to vary the position of the collar 34 and hence the angular movement of the rocket in response to displacement of the aileron 12. In another embodiment (Figs. 1 and 2, not shown), the rod 35 is pivoted directly to the rocket 32.
