[Class 59] A grinding roller mill has a roll confining device which comprises the combination of a pair of thrust-resisting rigid beams arranged parallel to the axis of the roll or rolls on both sides of said roll or rolls a roll-contacting member extending along the inner face of each beam and a plurality of pressure means adjustable independently of each other, arranged at spaced-apart points along the length of each beam for urging said roll-contacting members against a generatrix of the adjacent roll. Rollers 4 mounted in bearings 2 slidable along the sides ab, cd of the mill frame are pressed together by bars 9, 10 disposed parallel to the roller axes and pressed against the end rollers by screws 11, or hydraulic jacks, threaded along cross beams 6, 7 braced together by links 12 and slidable along the sides ab, cd of the mill frame. One or two of the central rollers or one of the cross beams 6, 7 may, however, be clamped to the frame. Material fed between the central rollers is collected by scrapers 18 from the end rollers. The bars 9, 10 may be concave on their roll-contacting faces and may be arranged to contact the rollers along a line out of the common plane of the axes of the rollers, Fig. 7; t'he bars 9, 10 may be heated or cooled; for example, by the circulation of fluid. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also a construction in which the bar 9 or 10 is in the form of a thin metal wall 20, Fig. 7 (Cancelled), pressed against the end roller by liquid behind it. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
