Abstract

307,313. MacCallum, A. E. G. Sept. 5, 1927. Roller and roller-and-breast mills.- In a fourmill grinding mill the lower rollers 3, 4 rotate about fixed axes and co-operate with a pair of rollers 1, 2, adjustable vertically as a pair relatively to the lower rollers and adjustable the one to the other. The paint &c. is fed between the rollers 1, 2 and is carried round to the rollers 3, 4 to be ground between the bars 5 and collected by a scraper 37. The upper rolls 1, 2 are mounted in a frame 9 slidable in guides in the main frame 8 and adjustable vertically by a screwed rod 10 operated by a worm and wormwheel through a hand-wheel 14. The bearings 18 for the upper rolls 1, 2 are mounted in guides 17 concentric with the axis of the lower rolls and are separated by plungers 19 and spring 20. The distance between the rolls 1, 2 is adjusted by plungers 35 movable by rods 33 connected to pivoted links 31. The upper ends of the links 31 are connected by screwed nuts to a rod 25 provided with threads 27, 38 of opposite pitch so that the links 31 and the bearings 18 may be moved towards or away from one another through the medium of a handwheel 26. In a modification the frame 9 and main frame 8 may be adjusted relatively to one another by means of a pair of wedges and the relative positions of the two upper rollers may be effected by a second wedge arrangement disposed at right angles to the first.
