Abstract
654,181. Fixing boards &c. to walls &c. BESSEY, G. E. Feb. 18, 1948, No. 4782. [Class 89(i)] Plywood, plaster, pulpy fibre &c. boards are fastened to walls or ceilings &c. without the use of battens by means of fixing devices secured directly to the wall. A union, Fig. 1, has a tapped bore that receives a wood screw 16 engaging a wall plug 20 and having a screwed head 17. A bifurcated spike 14 screws into the other end of the union. The board is impaled on the spikes as by hammering and the spikes are then opened out like a split pin, and flattened to secure the boards. The spikes and unions may be pitched 8 to 16 inches apart. The spikes may be solid and be removed after penetration, and replaced by a screw hook &c. Either or both the spikes and the screws 16 may be integral with the union. A rag bolt cemented into the wall may reccive the union or be integral therewith. The union may be bored to receive the countersunk head of a fixing screw.
