Abstract

639,114. Anchor nuts; locking-nuts. BLACKWOOD, A. R., and RAWLPLUG CO., Ltd. Dec. 18, 1944, No. 25342. [Class 89 (i)] [Also in Group X] A device for adjusting the level of a floor joist 8 or other structural element of a building comprises a nut 3 engaging a screw bolt 4 in a hole 7 in the joist, the bolt resting by its head 5 on a concrete or like floor. The nut is received in an enlargement of the hole 7 and is formed with ribs 9 which prevent it rotating. The joist is adjusted by rotating the bolt 4 by means of a screw-driver inserted in the hole 7 to engage a slot 6 in the bolt. In place of this slot the bolt may be formed with a hexagonal recess to receive the hexagonal end of a tool. The nut is formed with a slot 10 whereby when the joist has been suitably adjusted, the part of the nut above the slot may be bent as in Fig. 3b by striking the free end of the bolt with a tool so as to lock the nut on the bolt. Alternatively, the nut is formed with a finger 11, Fig. 4, which may be bent inwardly by striking the bolt as above.
