Abstract

54,126. Transformers. MARCONI'S WIRE. LESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Aug. 24, 1948, No. 22313. [Class 38 (ii)] A high frequency transformer or coupling unit comprises two coils 1, 2 physically arranged so that the coupling between them is less than critical, a screening can 3 enclosing the coils to provide more than critical coupling between them, the can being slotted, as at 4, to reduce the coupling to the required amount. The slot may have a short circuit member 5 provided therein which may be movable along the slot so as to provide a small range of variable coupling. Alternatively two opposite walls may be slotted and a link member inserted in the two slots across the screening can which arrangement allows for a much greater range of coupling variation. In yet another embodiment the slots are omitted and the link member situated in a position so that a desired fixed coupling is obtained.
