Abstract

583,161. Duplex wireless signalling ; filter circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and ESPLEY, D. C. Jan. 2, 1941, No. 49. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] Apparatus for preventing transmitted signals from entering the receiving circuit in a duplex short-wave radio system comprises a closed loop PRQS, Fig. 2, of concentric transmission line with the aerial A connected at P, the transmitter T at R, a balancing impedance at Q, and the receiver RE at S. The concentric lines constituting the loop, the aerial feed, and the feed to the balancing impedance have each a characteristic impedance Zo, while the transmitter and receiver are each connected to the loop by quarter-wave lines of characteristic impedance Zo/#2. The loop is so dimensioned that the path PRQ differs from the path PSQ by half a wave-length or an odd multiple thereof; and the points R, S are so chosen that RPS differs from RQS by the same amount. In a constructional example shown in Fig. 3, the concentric lines are formed by inserting axial rods in cylindrical holes 19 drilled in a metal block 1, the connections to the aerial, transmitter, balance and receiver, being made at 2, 3, 4, 5 respectively. The loop thus comprises a rectangle 14, 15, 16, 17 with one side a half-wave and the other a quarter-wave in length. Concentric lines 6, 7, 8 with movable bridges 21, 22, 23 are provided for adjustment; the line 6 for eliminating the effects bf the right-angled junctions, and the lines 7, 8 to serve as a transformer and resonator by which the effective resistance of the carbon plate 13, may be varied.
