Abstract
654,071. Sound reproducing devices. ROE, D. O., and BIRMINGHAM SOUND REPRODUCERS, Ltd. Sept. 3, 1947, No. 24358. [Class 40 (iv)] In a sound recording or reproducing device the mode of vibration of the vibrating elements is influenced by two members of different stiffness (in a ratio of from 3: 1 to 10: 1), and damping applied through the member of greater stiffness, so that a substantially flat output characteristic is obtained without the loss of sensitivity inherent in instruments designed to be resonant outside the audio range. In the electromagnetic pick-up, Fig. 2, an armature 31 is torsionally mounted on shafts 32 and 33, the former of which has a square end 34 sweated into a spacing-piece 29, whilst the latter is centred by a pivot 40 and frictionally restrained by pressure on a lanolin-impregnated felt pad 36 through a plate 35. In a further embodiment, Fig. 7, the end of the shaft 33 is fixed to a member 37 and the plate 35 presses the felt damping pad 36 against a plate 351 attached to the armature.
