Abstract
653,719. Cables. COMPAGNIE GENERALE DU DURALUMIN ET DU CUIVRE. Nov. 5, 1948, No. 28828. [Class 36] A high-voltage power transmission cable has a supporting core 10 consisting of'a high polymer of ethylene which is reinforced with a series of steel wires 11. Conducting wires 12 are helically ,wound on the composite core and may be surrounded with interlocking conducting elements 13. The steel wires 11 may either be helically applied to the outside of a polyethylene rod 10, with a lay opposite to that of the conductors 12, or may be enclosed in the bore of a polyethylene tube (Fig. 3, not shown). The conductors 12 and 13 are preferably of aluminium, the elements 13 being constructed so as to be water-tight and to allow some relative movement of adjacent elements without disengagement. The wires 11, 12 may be galvanized or coated with a protective substance, and the whole cable may be given a protective covering such as a film of polyethylene.
