Abstract

653,385. Reservoir pens. COMPANIA URUGUAYA DE FOMENTO INDUSTRIAL SOC. ANON. April 2, 1947, Nos. 8912/47 and 4683/48. [Class 146 (iii)] In a ball-point pen, a capillary device constituted by a gauze 7 or 8 is interposed between the reservoir 1 and the ball 4 to prevent passage of an ink meniscus beyond the position occupied by the device, For instance if air enters the gap between the ball and its housing, the meniscus thus formed does not pass beyond the gauze and leakage of ink at the open end of a vented reservoir is prevented. The location of the gauze is such that a capillary duct extends at each side of it ; the duct at the reservoir side may constitute a vented capillary reservoir. Two gauzes 7, 8 in series may be provided as shown with a capillary space 6a between them of sufficient volume to accommodate the expansion of air trapped behind the ball which might force the meniscus through the gauze 8. The point section may be provided with a capillary device and air trap as described in Specifications 650,754 and 650,804, and a suitable ink is described in Specification 621,847. Specifications 564,172, 571,698, 573,747, 651,509 and 652,359 also are referred to. The second Provisional Specification refers to Specification 651,481.
