Abstract

653,031. Radio receiving circuits. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. June 11; 1948, No. 15759. Convention date, June 14, 1947. [Class 40 (v)] In a radio receiver tunable to a plurality of wave ranges by means of resonant circuits comprising a fixed inductance in parallel with a common variable condenser, each parallel tuned circuit is provided with a switch for connecting a fixed or pre-set condenser, which has a much smaller capacity than the maximum capacity of the variable condenser, in series with the inductance of the circuit in such manner that the total minimum capacity of the circuit is reduced and the receiver is adapted for the reception of higher frequencies. As shown, the effect of the stray capacity CO is reduced by means of condenser C1 connected in series with the coil L and a fixed or pre-set condenser C2 may also be switched in series with the tuning condenser C so that the variation with tuning of the signal voltage applied to the input of the valve is considerably reduced. Fig. 1 (not shown) shows the highfrequency and mixing stages of a superheterodyne receiver using the circuit of Fig. 2, in which switching in the additional condensers C1, C2 changes the wave range from 6 to 18 mc/s. to 18 to 23 mc/s.
