Abstract
652,802. Electric fuses for blasting and like operations. SMITSVONK, N. V. June 22, 1948, No. 16781. Convention date, July 2, 1947. [Classes 9 (i)] and 9 (ii)] Electric ignition device for blasting fuses, bomb-release charges, jet-propulsion units and the like comprises two electrodes 2, 3 separated by a solid insulator 1, the ends of the electrodes being flush with the surface of the insulator, this surface constituting a spark gap across which discharge occurs when the electrodes are connected to a charged condenser. The electrodes may be of magnesium and the insulating material of paper, celluloid, gun-cotton or a non- or semi-conducting solid explosive. The electrode material may be combined with potassium chlorate, potassium nitrate, hypochlorites or made of an electrically conducting explosive. Mercury fulminate, or lead azide may be disposed in the creep path when the device is used with explosives which are difficult to ignite.
