[Class 87 (iii)] [Also in Group XVI] A work support for use with a press for carrying out printing, pressing, embossing, transfer or like operations comprises a platform, jig or the like to accommodate the work, and an abutment rockably supporting the platform, jig or the like, there being provision for varying the position of the abutment with respect to the platform, jig or the like. The platen, or a plate secured thereto, 1, Fig. 2, has a number of partspherical recesses 5, in one of which is placed a ball 6 engaging in one of similar recesses 5 in the work - supporting platform 4, which is thus allowed a limited universal pivotal movement, the recess being of less depth than the radius of the ball. Lateral movement of the platform is prevented by spring-clips 2, and the platform is urged into parallel relationship with the platen by springs 7 in recesses 8. Two balls may be used to limit pivoting to one axis, or three to prevent pivoting. In another form, Fig. 3, V-section grooves 15 replace the recesses 5, and in one groove is placed a cylindrical bar 16 to allow pivoting about one axis. Two bars may be used to prevent pivoting. The bar may be in two sections between which engages an abutment on the platform 4 to assist prevention of lateral movement thereof. A saddle for the work can be positioned on the platform. Both recesses and grooves may be provided to allow use of bars or balls. The abutments may also be semi-spherical or semi-cylindrical. The abutments may be resilient, springs being located between them and the platform jig or the like, or between them and the platen or plate. According to the Provisional Specification, the abutment may be a semi-spherical element integral with or secured to the platen or plate. A plurality of jigs may be provided for use on a common plate, and two disc-like stops secured to the plate by pins, screws or the like passing eccentrically through them may be provided for engagement with the sides of the jig in use for preventing lateral sliding movement thereof.
