Abstract

[Class 78 (i)] A weighing machine comprises (Fig. 1) a rotary tank 1 from which powdered material flows to one or more bags through and around the bottom discharge openings 5 formed in the tank and is characterized by a fixed baffle system 26 placed within the tank immediately above the discharge openings so as to prevent the material being carried round as a whole with the tank, and is so constructed as to guide the material towards the openings. Figs. 1, 3. Hopper 1, hollow spindle 2, conical wall 14, hopper bottom 32, collar 4 and air inlet pipe 19, are all secured together and rotate together. Baffle bars 26 are secured to the stationary upper cover 13, are held together by hoops 27, 28, 29 and carry arms 30 located over discharge openings 5. Material enters at 3, is agitated against the baffle 26 by the rotating hopper and passes through opening 5 and down pipes 7 to nozzles 8 at each of which a bag is held by arm 10 on weighing lever 9. When the bag is filled, roller 11 is tripped by a cam surface and the bag is released by arm 10 whilst arm 16 moves to press rubber discharge pipe 6 and prevent further discharge. Figs. 1, 3 and 4. To facilitate discharge, air may be introduced by pipe 19 into hollow spindle 2 whence it escapes by holes 18 into conical space 14 and then passes out through pipe 20 into pipes 25 which are porous and through which the air diffuses into the material. Alternatively (Fig. 4), the air may pass through porous plates 21 which are separated between the discharge openings 5. Alternatively tank 14 may be cylindrical or may be omitted and replaced by a horizontal plate to which the arm 30 are secured. Specification 628,472 is referred to.
