916,249. Hoppers. AAGAARD, B. M. Nov. 10, 1960 [Nov. 19, 1959], No. 39293/59. Class 78 (1). Materials or articles, particularly coffee cherries whose stones are to be subsequently removed as coffee beans, are fed through a hopper 3 whose outlet 5 is controlled by a slide 10 and are picked up from a horizontal surface outside the outlet by scoops 19 which, as shown, are preferably carried by a rotating shaft 18. The sloping of the hopper front wall 4 which houses the slide and the offsetting of the hopper inlet 7 cause the space 3a to remain empty during feed and help to prevent blockages. The apparatus comprising the hopper 3 and scoop wheel 17 is shown feeding coffee cherries to a separator 20 in which water is used to wash away the pulp through an open outlet 23, leaving the stones to be extracted through a closable outlet 25.
