Abstract

652,346. Heating air. WORSDALE, T. W. Dec. 16, 1948, No. 32519. [Class 64(iii)] Air is heated in a heat exchanger unit 1 by the water of the engine cooling system and in a second heat exchanger 5 by the exhaust gases of an I.C. engine (not shown) which also drives a blower 10 forcing air through the apparatus. The heat exchanger units 1 and 5 each comprise parallel straight tubes extending between tube plates and surrounded by a casing. The unit 1 is provided with connections 3 leading to the engine cooling system, the water from which flows within the casing and over the tubes 2. The unit 5 is connected by a pipe 7 to the engine exhaust, the hot gases flowing over the tubes 6 to a stack 8. Air is drawn by the fan 10 through a dust filter 15, through the tubes 2 of the unit 1, through a space connecting the tubes 2 and 6 formed by the cover 11, through the tubes 6 of the unit 5, and is forced by the fan to a duct 12 leading to grain storage bins or the like. The temperature of the air passing through the duct 12 is controlled by manually operated sliding dampers 13, 14. A filler 4 is provided in the heat exchanger unit 1.
