Abstract
651,934. Hinges. LEWDEN METAL PRODUCTS, Ltd., DENFIELD, S., and WALKER, P. L. Aug. 31, 1948, No. 22926. [Class 65 (ii) ] In a hinge wherein one element 11 has oppositely directed pins 12 engaging bores in lugs 1 on the other element 2 and wherein, to facilitate production by die-casting or by moulding in plastic or other substances, the bore.in each lug is formed by two radial U-section slots 3, 4, of which one extends to one side of the hinge axis from one end of the bore at least to its middle and the other extending to the other side of the axis from the other end of the bore at least to its middle, the material of each lug 1 to one side of one of the slots therein is chamfered or cut away at an angle, as at 9, and the other hinge element 11 is tapered adjacent the pins to permit insertion of the latter into the slots in a predetermined relative position of the elements, as indicated in the drawing, while retaining the elements together in any other relative position. The slots 3, 4 open into each other adjacent to the hinge axis, and the base of the U-section of each forms a semi-cylindrical bearing for the hinge pin, these two bearings being opposed and staggered.
