Abstract

651,614. Accumulators; electrolytic production of lead-tin alloy. MINISTER OF SUPPLY, JONES, W. F. K. WYNNE-, and BECK, W. H. Sept. 29, 1948, No. 25346. [Classes 41 and 53] A positive plate for an accumulator is made by electrolytically depositing lead on a layer of tin or tin alloy which may be supported on a foundation plate. The foundation plate may comprise a zinc sheet covered with copper upon which a layer of tin is electrodeposited from a sodium stannate bath. The tinned plate is dipped in fluoboric acid and then made the cathode in a lead fluoborate plating bath, some of the tin in the foundation plate alloying with the lead as it is deposited. In another method the foundation plate is provided with a layer of tin by dipping it in molten tin. Alternatively the electrode may be made by depositing lead on a sheet of tin-plate. The completed electrode may be constructed as a bipolar electrode, one side being formed positively and the opposite side negatively. Specification 651,615 is referred to.
