Abstract

932,822. Electrodeposition of copper articles. VYZKUMNY USTAV POLYGRAFICKY. Feb. 28, 1961 [March 9, 1960], No. 7275/61. Class 41. Copper articles such as printing plates, bi-metallic foils, stereotypes, pressing dies for producing gramophone records, and dies for treating synthetic materials are electrolytically produced from almost saturated acid coppering electrolytes using a direct current which is switched-off intermittently to allow recovery from polarization effects so that homogeneous Cu may be obtained. The interruptions may be for 3 to 30 sees. every 1 to 3 mins. The electrolyte may be 18% CuSO 4 , 4% H 2 SO 4 and 78% H 2 O at 20-25‹ C. A current density of 14-15 amps./sq. dm. may be used and the Cu may be smoothed with an agate during deposition. In 3 hours a 0.13-0.15 mm. Cu layer can be deposited.
