Abstract

651,326. Paper bags. SCHISLER, R. Feb. 24, 1947, Nos. 5309 and 5310. Convention dates, Feb. 25, 1946 and Sept. 2, 1946. [Class 94(ii)] Paper bags, preferably of the satchelbottom type, are formed after a web of paper 3 has been passed between rollers 1, 2, which are provided with creasing devices 4, 5, 7, 8 and cutters 6, 6b for forming slits 12, the cutting and creasing being done in one operation. Rib 5 and grooves 4 form longitudinal lines 9, Fig. 3; the scissors action of cutters 6, 6b form slits 12 and the parts 7, 8 from grooves 10. The strip 3 is later cut into sections on lines x'-x. Grooves 6a extend alongside the cutters 6. The clearance between the rollers 1, 2, may be adjusted. Larger rollers having a series of parts 4-8 around their peripheries, may be used. In a second arrangement, Fig. 4, the upper shaft 13 has a number of discs 15, 17 and the lower shaft 14 with corresponding discs 16, 18. The number of discs 15, 16 between pairs of discs 17, 18 may be varied to vary the transverse dimension of a bag.
