Abstract

[Class 66] [Also in Groups VI, XVIII, and XXIX] A pressure cooker is provided with a thick heat resistant glass inspection lid 14, and a pressure maintaining release passage 27 closable by a plug 32 on a pivoted lever 33 held down by its own weight. The glass lid which is oval is secured by a bolt 25 to a leaf spring 35 which is bent at 36 then straightened out and secured to an upper insulated grip 39 whereby it can be removed from the cooker. The bolt 25, by its flanged nut 26, also fixes the valve body 20 in the lid. The valve body also contains a safety valve comprising a castellated rubber disc 30 which closes the bore 28 at normal cooking pressures. The glass lid is surrounded by a U-section rubber ring 16 to act as a pressure-closed seal and also to cushion the lid against breakage during handling. The upper handle 39 is secured by a spring clip 43 to the lower body handle 40, the clip being released to allow the upper handle to be partially rotated for removing the oval lid along with it. An internal space divider comprises a bottom disc 46 carrying dividing quadrants 48; 50, 51, which can be folded down to lie flat the quadrants 50 and 51 being vertically hinged to 48 and 48 being horizontally hinged to the disc 46.
