Heating and cooking vessels; coverings; jackcts. - A cooker for hams or the like comprises a metal tank A provided with a lid L, the sides of the tank and the lid both surrounded by heatinsulating material I, the joint between the lid and the tank having an india rubber packing ring or the like. A thermometer T can be inserted through the lid to take the, temperature of the liquid in tile tank. The ham, hams, of the like are contained in a ham-holder C suitably shaped to take right- or left-handed boneless, or other hams; the ham-holder rests on a perforated tray B slightly spaced above the bottom of the tank. The ham &c. being in position in the glutinous cooking liquid, heat is applied to the tank, which is maintained at the requisite temperature for a short time, the heat then being turned off and the ham left to continue cooking in the hot liquid for a period depending on its size and weight.
