Abstract

258,159. Fowler, E. A. Feb. 15, 1926. Disinfecting-chambers. - A container in which food or other articles are heated for disinfecting, sterilizing, or other purposes has one or more heat diffuser or protector plates s hingedly secured to the interior of the heated surface or surfaces of the container so that the plate can be turned up for cleaning. In the example described, the container 5 has a lid 6, and is provided with a perforated diffuser plate 12 having a ring flange 15 adapted to rest on the container bottom 14. The plate 12 is secured'to the container by a hinge, one portion 17 of which is attached to the bottom 14 and the other portion 16 to the flange 15. A thermometer 9 is carried in a lateral chamber 7 communicating with the interior of the container through apertures 8. The container may be employed for sterilizing fruit, vegetable, or other food in glass receptacles, and may be heated by steam, gas, electricity, or hot water.
