Abstract

[Class 120(i)] [Also in Group XVIII] An automatic weighing and feeding machine supplying textile fibres to carding engines and of the kind in which means are provided for interrupting the feed to the scale pan when a predetermined "weigh" has been delivered thereto and prior to timed periodic actuation of the scale pan for releasing the "weigh" therefrom, and having electric switch means associated with the pan for actuation on movement of the pan when the "weigh" has been fed thereto, mechanism being brought into operation by the switch means for interrupting the feed to the pan, is characterized in that the switch means comprises a mercury switch attached to and moving with the scale beam and a solenoid in the switch circuit arranged for direct actuation of catch release mechanism forming part of the means of interrupting the feed of material to the pans so as to effect such an interruption on downward movement of the pan. The longitudinal spring- biassed doors 11, 11a of the scale pan hinged at 12, 12a are opened by a weighted bell-crank lever 23a bearing upon a pin 15 attached to the arm 14c and engaging in a slot in the arm 14b of the bell crank levers 14, 14a which are fixed to the door pivots 12, 12a. The lever 23 is operated by a cam 27 which is driven continuously. The scale pan is pivotally attached to weighted arms 18 to which is attached a mercury switch 18b. When the scale pan has received a predetermined "weigh," the arms 18 tilt and operate the switch 18b which energizes a solenoid 56 to pull a link 54 to turn a weighted lever 52 and remove a catch 57 from a shoulder on an axially movable rod 50 to allow the same to move a belt fork to shift a belt 67 from a fast pulley 68 to a loose pulley 69 and stop the feeding lattice 51. At the same time a trap door (not shown), above the scale pan is closed to prevent additional material from entering the pan. The rotating cam plate 27 now brings cam 27a to operate the bell crank 23 to open the doors 11, 11a of the pan to deliver the "weigh" on to the lattice 74. The scale pan now rises under its weight 21, 21a and cam 27b then operates a bell crank 43 which through a link 45 will move an arm 46 to bring a bowl 47 against the underside of the scale arm to prevent rebounding of the arm. At the same time the switch 18b is disconnected, the solenoid de-energized and the lever 52 moves to press the catch 57 on to the rod 50. The cam 27 then slides the rod 50 axially to move the shoulder thereon behind the catch 57 and so move the belt 67 on to the fast pulley 68 to operate the feed lattice and open the trap door (not shown), for another "weigh" to be delivered into the pan.
