[Class 35] A multiplex commutator winding is composed of a series of simplex windings placed on axially separated parts of the armature and interconnected so as to provide a continuous series path from one commutator segment to another. In its simplest form, Fig. 1, a duplex parallel winding consists of two lap windings a, b, c, d, &c. and a<SP>1</SP>, b<SP>1</SP>, c<SP>1</SP>, d<SP>1</SP>, &c. wound on axially-separated cores and joined at their end connections 1<SP>11</SP>, 2<SP>11</SP>, &c. Commutators with interconnected brushes may be connected at both ends as indicated or one may be omitted without substantially altering the current distribution in the windings. In a modification, Fig. 4, the conductors pass straight from one core to the other and are joined by interconnectors s to produce the same electrical effect. If desired, these interconnectors need not be joined to the main conductors but have special leads passing through the same slots to the commutator segments at either end. Combinations of lap and wave windings may be used and the simplex windings may be both equal to a pole-pitch or one may be of greater and the other less span. A triplex winding having three armatures is illustrated.
