Abstract

650,714. Floors; walls. FISCHER, H. C. and HIGGINS, A. H. W. April 29, 1947, No. 11424. Convention date, May 3, 1946. [Class 20(iv)] An auxiliary structural member adapted to be attached to the flanges of grinders &c. to provide a nailing groove, clips on the flange by means of a nailing groove 10 on one side and a clip 8 on the other or in a modification by means of a nailing groove 10b on each side. The member shown is clipped to a girder supporting floors and having a nailing groove, but where a butt joint of the floor boards rests on the girder and requires nails driven off the line of the main nailing groove, the auxiliary member provides a nailing groove in the correct position. The member is sprung into position and protuberances 21 assist in holding it in place. The nailing grooves comprise curved ribs 16 which grip the nails and a tubular bottom 12 which bends and clinches the end of the nail. The entrance to the groove may be flared and the ribs 16 may be provided on one side only.
