Abstract

560,461. Girders and beams. WORTHINGTON, W. J., and BODGER, F. W. Aug. 27,1942, No. 12062. [Classes 20 (ii) and 20 (iv)] A beam comprises a one-piece length of metal or moulded material 11 of tubular or trough form carrying a strip of wood, fibre or other material into which nails or screws can be driven to secure floor boards 16 or the like. In Fig. 1, the wood strip 14 is held between inwardly directed channel portions 13 in which it may be secured by nails. The beams may be connected by sleeve-like members 17 attached by screws. In Fig. 4, the upper edges of the sides 22 are bent inwardly to form beads 24 supporting a recessed wood member 25 which is secured by nails. The wood member 33 in Fig. 6 is held vertically between inwardly and downwardly bent portions 31, 32 of the channel member 11.
