Abstract
650,713. Magnetic induction accelerators. AKT.-GES. BROWN, BOVERI, & CIE. Feb. 18, 1947, No. 4736. Convention date, Sept. 3, 1943. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] In a magnetic induction accelerator both the induction and guiding fields are excited by means of two windings through which in-phase or approximately in-phase voltages are passed, one winding embracing both magnetic fields, while the other embraces only the induction flux. The magnetic reluctance to the induction flux is substantially smaller than to the guiding flux, and the number of turns of the two windings is so chosen that the field strength of the guiding field is half the mean field strength of the induction field when the two windings are connected to the same exciting voltage. A small air gap may be provided for the induction flux, but is preferably omitted. By adjusting the ratio of the number of turns of the two windings, the electron path radius may be adjusted. The magnetic induction accelerator may have a D.C. biassing field applied to the guiding field. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the connecting of the two windings to different in-phase voltages, whose ratio may also be adjusted to vary the electron path radius. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
