Abstract
650,478. Electric welding. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. March 8, 1948, No. 7066. Convention date, March 11, 1947. [Class 83 (iv)] [Also in Group II] In welding a stud &c, 1 to a plate &c. 4 a slag forming body 2 of low electrical conductivity supported by the plate carries a shoulder 3 on which the stud 1 is positioned and a recess 5 in which the arc is produced. Fusion of the wall 6 allows the stud to be moved towards the plate under spring pressure &c. The slag forming body may comprise by weight, calcium carbonate 15 per cent, calcium fluoride 13 per cent, bentonite 12 per cent, ferromanganese 2 per cent, ferrosilicon 3 per cent, ferrotitanium 2 per cent and powdered iron 53 per cent. The body may, before use, be heated in vacuo for 1 hour at 800‹ C. to expel gas.
