Abstract
650,308. Bracken-collecting machines. PERBOHNER, S. July 1, 1947, No. 17367. [Class 6(iii)] A bracken - collecting machine comprises a frame 10 mounted on skids 14 and carrying, at its front, pairs of power - driven rollers 31 which grip and uproot the bracken. A motor 15 drives a transverse shaff 23 on which the roller frame 25 is pivoted, and about which it may be adjusted, through a slot 29 and nut 28. The rollers are driven by wormwheels 45 engaging worms 46 on the shaft 23. The worm-wheels 45 are mounted on short shafts 43 coupled to the roller spindles 36 through couplings 37 which permit considerable misalignment between adjacent rollers. The upper bearings for the rollers are arranged to be alternately fixed or laterally movable by means of spring- loaded wedges. The bracken stems are thus gripped between one fixed and one spring-loaded roller. The surface of each roller may be ribbed as at 35 or it may be covered by a strip of canvas loosely wound around the roller. Forwardly-projecting dividers 50 guide the crop towards the rollers.
